The restaurant is open daily during the summer but only irregularly during the winter time. The restaurant specializes in Icelandic seafood dishes. The atmospheric and picturesque heritage site of Laufás is full of history with its large farmhouse and beautiful 19th Church. It has been the home of priests since at least 1047 until 1935 with the current priest still living on the premises. The house a maze with long corridors and surprisingly many interconnected rooms. The heritage site Laufás is mentioned in historical records soon after the settlement of Iceland (874-930) being a renowned church site and chieftain’s residence. The current buildings are from the middle of the 19th century and furnished with household items and clothes from the period. One of Laufás characteristics is the Bridal room where brides prepared themselves for the big event. The existing church was built in 1865, among its special items is a pulpit from 1698. Laufás Visitor Centre has a cosy atmosphere and additional information about nature, wildlife and history of the vicinity. Local handcraft and souvenir shop and refreshments.

The old harbour warehouse, Hafnarhús, offers a progressive exhibition program with local and international contemporary artists. The works of key figures, as well as established and emerging current artists are presented in six galleries. Hafnarhús is also home to the works of Erró (b. 1932), a significant player in the international pop art scene. Hafnarhús is located in the oldest part of Reykjavik, where the town’s boats and first docks lay. The building was erected in the 1930s and at the time it was one of the largest buildings in the country. It was renovated by Studio Grandi architects in 1998-2000 to house Reykjavík Art Museum.

In two exhibitons The Settlement Centre tells the Saga of The Settlement of Iceland and Iceland´s most famous viking and first poet Egill Skallagrimsson. It gives the traveler a good foundation for further knowledge when traveling in Iceland. Its origin can be traced to the tragic death of Heiðar Þ. Jónsson in 2007, who left behind him his collection including dozens of bikes and a great number of assorted motorbike accessories. The museum details the history of the motorcycle through important bikes and stories of colourful characters and is a must-visit location for all motorbike enthusiasts.

The Natural History Museum in Bolungarvik was formally opened in may 1998, the museum was also the first of its kind in the Westfjords. The display room is over 300 m2. There is a big conference room at the museum that makes it easier to greet groups. The museum and the Natural History Institute of the Westfjords are in the same building and are connected, but the Natural Institute is in charge of the daily business of the museum. The museum is dedicated to Steinn Emilsson, a geologist that was for a long time the principal of the elementary school in Bolungarvik. His rock collection is the biggest part of the rock display of the museum. There are a lot of mammals and birds at the museum. When entering the museum you get greeted by a hooded seal and not far from him is the polar bear surrounded by seal, fox and mink. For nearly 40 years the mountain Hlíðarfjall has been one of the prime skiing areas of Iceland. The hallmarks of Hlíðarfjall are high quality snow, extensive cross country trails and exciting ski slopes with breathtaking views of Eyjafjörður. Akureyris’ ski resort is situated just 5 km outside of the town, it is a very unique area. The elevation of the site goes from 500 m to 1000 m above sea level and so there is plenty of opportunities for good skiing during the winter months. Since 2006 Hliðarfjall has had a number of snow making machines installed which extendes and improves snow conditions on the slopes. All of the main runs are floodlit, allowing evening skiing.

The JEA (Jazzfestival in Egilsstaðir), held at Valaskjaálf has been an annual event in east Iceland since 1988 and that makes JEA the oldest jazz festival in Iceland. Hljómahöll is a cultural center in Reykjanesbær. An important forum has been created for conferences, meetings and all kinds of cultural events. The historical community house Stapi is a part of Hljómahöll which is still in full use. The Icelandic Museum of Rock ‘n’ Roll is a big part of the house (Hljómahöll) and is a great attraction for tourists all over the world who want to learn about the history of pop and rock in Iceland. The museum offers various ways to learn about this remarkable history; documentary films, music, souvenirs, an app and guests can actively involve them selves by trying out f.ex. drums, bass and guitars. With the advent of Hljómahöll we hope to see more possibilities for cultural and creative work in Reykjanes.

At the restaurant we make all our meals from scratch with the finest ingredients straight from farmers and our immediate enviroment. We offer gluten-free refreshments as well as other special diets, we do our best to serve all. Every day we offer healthy soups, homemade breads, fish of the day, Happy hamburgers, sandwiches of all sorts both hot and cold, freshly baked cakes and more. Hopefully most customers will find something to their liking at Hendur í Höfn Café. Opening ours over summer time is every day from 11 am – 9 pm but over wintertime we are closed on mondays. The works of key figures, as well as established and emerging current artists are presented in six galleries. Hafnarhús is also home to the works of Erró (b. 1932), a significant player in the international pop art scene. Hafnarhús is located in the oldest part of Reykjavik, where the town’s boats and first docks lay. The building was erected in the 1930s and at the time it was one of the largest buildings in the country. It was renovated by Studio Grandi architects in 1998-2000 to house Reykjavík Art Museum.
