Flaaryr and Gígja Jónsdóttir are guitarist and violinist who work with live looping and an unconventional approach to their instruments. On February 6th they will perform joint solo sets in Mengi, merging their works in experimental settings. Flaaryr is Diego Manatrizio, Reykjavík based experimental musician, composer and guitarist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Although he prefers not to frame himself into any particular genre, his style oscillates between minimalism, math, and noise. His music is strongly characterized by meticulous looping, rhythmic experimentation and the use of extended techniques, such as prepared guitar. Flaaryr’s compositions are mostly short pieces, which in his live sets are played all assembled into one long piece that doesn’t stop until the set is over, creating an experience that is often described as immersive and trance-like. ~ Gígja Jónsdóttir is an artist working across performance, sound, video and installation. She is a member of the techno violin duo GEIGEN along with Pétur Eggertsson. Recently she has been developing a solo project using violin, voice, live looping, noise and field recordings creating textural, repetitive drone soundscape that deconstructs intertwined elements and builds fictional environments. Gígja graduated from the MFA program at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018. […]
